Kim Johnson

Welcome Message

My name is Kim Johnson.  This is my 24th year of teaching and my 16th year at LRES!  I have taught first and second grade during my career.  I enjoy both grades, but have a passion for first graders because of the tremendous growth I see each year with students learning to read!
I grew up in a small town in WV and moved to Northern Va in 2004.
My husband and I have four children:  Derrelle (my stepson)- 29, Kenyon- 14, Ava- 13, and Zoe- 13.
I love to read and travel, especially to the beach!

Class dojo is where you can connect best with me, as I share all information here.  I also post pictures on my class story for everyone to see what fun things we are doing during the year.

As we settle into this social distancing and possibly homeschooling if your schedule allows, I want to let you know that I am here if you need any guidance as to what we would be learning if were at school and how you can best help continue the education from home.  Please see the updated pacing guide in the Files and Documents folder.  This will show you the planned topics of focus in each content area, broken down by week.

You can also refer to the March newsletter for the current month's units of study in the core areas.

I recommend having the kids log into Clever and work in Moby Max, read in myON, explore in BrainPOP, and work in Dreambox.  And of course Seesaw is a fun way for them to submit their work.  Students should use the QR Code I I sent through class dojo or in the "Take home" packet on March 13.

I have provided the following links:

* Clever (Although everyone should have their badge.  If you need another copy emailed, please let me know.)
* English Standards of Learning found on the Virginia Department of Education website
* Social Studies Standards of Learning found on the Virginia Department of Education website
* Math Standards of Learning found on the Virginia Department of Education website

iReady is a company that many districts use for testing and remediation. They've compiled "At Home Learning Packs" for families and teachers:
Students may begin a daily writing journal where they write 2-3 sentences (using beginning capital letters and correct ending punctuation) telling about their day.  They can also write about how they feel about school being out for the rest of this year, their summer plans/hopes, something they have read about, write a letter to Mrs. Johnson, write a letter to their parent(s), or make up a story.  Students can illustrate their sentences.
