Happy New Year, Lake Ridge Families!
I was so happy seeing the children back in the building. In talking with many children they had a wonderful Winter Break and enjoyed being with their families. I spoke with several children who read some good books and I can’t wait to read them myself
We have had many new families join our Lake Ridge family already this month. We are excited to have you as part of our school family and look forward to working together to ensure our children enjoying school and learning each and every day.
It seems the cold weather has finally come and we ask, again, that the children wear clothing that is appropriate for the weather. We make sure that the children are bundled up in coats, gloves, scarves, and hats when they leave our building and the weather is mighty frigid.
Please continue to work with your children each night on building the basic mathematical knowledge of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, whichever suits your grade level the best. Having the basic facts will make the rest of math so much easier.
At the same time, we are looking for help with increasing the children’s fluency, reading comprehension, and stamina. Please read with your children each evening, taking turns reading aloud, and asking them questions about what they are reading. This will go a long way in helping build fluency and reading comprehension, but also in building stamina. The children should be reading for at least 20 minutes each evening.
I also wanted to make you aware that we will be holding a community information session regarding the new addition to our school building on Tuesday, January 17 at 6:30 p.m. in our library. This meeting will take place during the Advisory Council meeting. You will have an opportunity to see the layout of the new addition of our building and ask questions. We hope to see you there!
Thank you for your help, encouragement, and dedication to the students of Lake Ridge Elementary School. Together we are paving the way for a very bright future.
