“Hunger Doesn’t End on Friday”
Did you know?
The PTO Child & Safety Committee works closely with LRES to reach the children and families in greatest need. LRES is a targeted school because they are not currently serviced by other weekend food organizations, overlooked because of the overall socio-economic stats of the area around the school, or in need of greater assistance.
How does it work?
Food is collected and delivered to LRES every two weeks. Each Friday, the counselor/teacher discretely places the packaged food in the backpacks of children who need it.
Food Items offered include:
-Oatmeal -Single Serving Soup -Pretzels
-Fruit -Single Serving Microwaveable Pasta -Pop Corn
-Granola Bars -Single Serving Cereal -Milk
Handling with care…
Every effort is made to ensure that program is operated in a manner that promotes respect for the children and families served.
- 1:5 children in the United States don't get the food they need
- The average monthly Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefit is $1.46 per meal
- 3 out of 4 teachers say their students regularly come to school hungry
- Kids who get nutritional food miss less school, get better grades and are more likely to graduate high school
