Lake Ridge Elementary School Counseling

Lake Ridge School Counseling Department is excited for 2023-24!  This year we are introducing all students to a conflict management curriculum called Kelso’s Choices.   Our goal is to teach students several positive ways to deal with conflict and disagreement that we all face regularly.   As students learn to effectively solve problems this will reduce stress as well as the number of conflicts that they have at school and in their neighborhood.  After their lesson with the school counselor, their class will have a chart with 8-9 ways to deal with conflict.  Students are taught that when they have a small problem, they can choose two of the following ideas:

  • Go to another game or activity
  • Respectfully talk it over and listen to each other.
  • Walk away from the problem
  • Ignore the problem behavior
  • Tell the person to stop the behavior
  • Apologize
  • Make a deal or compromise
  • Wait to cool off
  • Share and take turns
